PORT ANGELES — Lisa Davis hugged her daughter Jessie as the young woman wiped away her tears.
In front of them, an honor guard of Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Coast Guard stood at attention as the U.S. flag was raised to the top of the pole, then lowered to half-staff.
Thursday’s ceremonies in front of the Clallam County Courthouse and nearby Veterans Memorial Park observed Peace Officers Memorial Day, dedicated to law enforcement personnel who have died in the line of duty.
For most of the 40-some people who attended the events, the foremost memories were of the late Sheriff’s Deputy Wally Davis — then Lisa’s husband and Jessie’s father.
Davis was killed Aug. 5, 2000 when he answered a disturbance call at 2009 E. Ennis Road east of Port Angeles.
