PORT ANGELES — A change-of-plea hearing in Gary Carl Borneman’s murder-kidnapping case has been reset to 1 p.m. today.
Borneman, 40, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree kidnapping and six other counts related to the Oct. 7 shooting death of Jerry Howell and kidnapping of Howell’s girlfriend, Rebecca Messinger.
The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office offered to drop firearm and domestic violence enhancements that would lengthen Borneman’s sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to revised charges.
Borneman consulted with defense attorney John Hayden before Superior Court Judge Goerge L. Wood reset the hearing, according to the minutes of a Tuesday hearing.
Port Angeles police said Borneman tied Messinger to the driver’s seat of her vehicle, ordered her at gunpoint to drive to a Port Angeles residence she shared with Howell and shot the 40-year-old Howell with a 22-caliber pistol.
