PORT TOWNSEND – The game pitted 17 competitors against one.
Mike Murray, a Port Townsend resident who is also current Montana open chess tournament champion, took down 15 of the players and had a draw with two, leaving him with no losses at the end of the 5½-hour competition at the community center.
The player to get the best game against Murray?
Ben Seran, a Chimacum resident who at only 6 years old managed to keep up the game for four hours before succumbing to the champ.
Seran later beat Dennis McGuire, who runs Last Exit on Kearney Chess and Go, 305 Kearney St.
“He beat me in 10-minute chess hands down,” McGuire said.
