PORT ANGELES — Walter Floyd Mozingo was charged last week with two counts of first-degree child rape and was released from the Clallam County jail on his own recognizance.
Mozingo, 52, will be arraigned Dec. 31 in Clallam County Superior Court.
Mozingo was arrested at his Port Angeles residence Monday after two girls told police he had raped them.
The rapes allegedly took place when the children were younger than 12.
Judge Erik Rohrer set bail at $150,000 bail in Mozingo’s first court appearance Tuesday.
On Thursday, Judge Christopher Melly granted defense attorney Harry Gasnick’s request to release Mozingo without bail.
“We argued against it,” said Michele Devlin, Clallam County deputy prosecuting attorney.
The judge determined that Mozingo was not a flight risk and that the alleged crimes were more opportunistic than behavior-related, Devlin said.
“The court takes a lot things under consideration,” she added.
