JOYCE — An 11-year-old child suffered a laceration on his leg when he was hit by a pickup while trying to cross state Highway 112 on a bicycle, the State Patrol said.
Dakota E. Koepp was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. His condition was not released by the hospital because he is a minor. A neighbor said he is recovering at home in Joyce as of Wednesday.
The boy was riding a bicycle eastbound on the westbound shoulder of Highway 112 while a Ford pickup driven by Jeffrey B. Grimm, 40, was traveling eastbound, both at milepost 47, at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, troopers said.
The bicyclist tried to cross the roadway and was struck by the motorist, who was not injured.
The bicyclist was wearing a helmet. The pickup driver was wearing a seat belt. Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, troopers said.
The cause was a failure to yield on the part of the bicyclist, the State Patrol memo said.
No charges were filed.
