CHIMACUM — The Chimacum School Board voted unanimously to replace a bus that the district’s insurance risk pool declared wrecked in a March 29 crash on Marrowstone Island.
The bus driver and three students escaped the crash into a drainage ditch and culvert without injuries.
Art Clarke, the district’s business manager, said the risk pool agreed to replace the 71-seat bus with a new vehicle of similar size and style.
“The district will have to pay for any options on the new bus, beyond what was on the current bus,” Clarke said in a memo presented to the five-member school board.
The new bus costs $80,213.81, of which $8,754.41 comes from the district under the insurance claim.
