CHIMACUM — Former Chimacum High School band teacher David R. Jones agreed Wednesday to repay $4,519 in student band funds that he gambled away last summer.
Under the agreement signed by Jones’ lawyer, Karen Unger, and approved by Jefferson County Court Commissioner Marianne Walters, the former band teacher will pay $3,019 to the Washington Schools Risk Pool and $1,500 directly to the Chimacum School District.
Washington Schools Risk Pool is an insurance provider for the school district.
Superintendent Mary Lynne Derrington previously estimated damages at $3,874 more than the amount Jones stole because of staff time devoted to parents meetings, jail visits, police interviews and finding a new teacher.
