CHIMACUM — Stunned friends of Shane Thomas Luther are getting by with a little help from each other.
Luther, 16, was found dead Saturday morning after he had attended a drinking party.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigators believe the death may be alcohol-related, although their investigation is continuing.
On Tuesday, his girlfriend, Kaylee Bishop, and friend Eric Hoppey said they are planning a permanent memorial in his honor and a barbecue next Monday.
In the meantime, a formal memorial service will be held at the Port Ludlow Beach Club on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Bishop said she had been dating Luther — who was nicknamed “Shaners” — for about two months, but had been friends with him for more than two years.
“He liked the beach,” she said.
His friends are working on the design of the memorial and would like to see it placed near Port Ludlow’s Beach Club, overlooking Hood Canal.
