VASHON ISLAND – Arlo Evasick is perfect.

The Chimacum High School senior threw a no-hit, no-walk and nobody-on-base gem in a 1-0 full seven-inning Nisqually League baseball game against Class 1A power Vashon Island on Wednesday.

Evasick, who struck out 13 of the 21 batters he faced, also helped the Cowboys remain unblemished on the year at 4-0 in league and 6-0 overall.

Was this Evasick’s best game in his career?

“It’s his best game this year,” Chimacum coach Loren Bishop said. “He had a no-hitter last year at regionals.”

Chimacum’s ace hurler (3-0 on the year) had all of his pitches working, Bishop said, including his fastball that averages in the mid- to high-80s and curveball.

“He pretty much had them on their heels the whole game,” Bishop said. “He threw less than 80 pitches.”

Adam McWilliams caught Evasick.

Besides holding the Pirates completely off the bases, Evasick also scored the winning run in the fourth inning. He did everything but turn out the lights at the end of the game.

In the fourth, he was walked by Vashon starter Justin Calhan, who also threw a standout game for the entire seven innings.

Devin Cray knocked Evasick in with a triple for the only run of the contest.

Calhan, who also struck out 13 batters, spread out six hits.

“We just couldn’t get back-to-back hits,” Bishop said.

Kyle Doucette went 2-for-3 for the Cowboys while Kevin Bishop ripped a double.

Vashon Island was the team that Chimacum needs to beat in league, according to Bishop.

“It was an important win,” he said. “We have had a good run so far. We’re pretty excited.”

The Cowboys are on their spring break now, and won’t play again until April 6 when they travel to Sequim for a makeup nonleague game.

“We will use Sequim to warm us up for league,” Bishop said.
