CHIMACUM — Call them the Magnificent Seven.
Led by a core of seven seniors, all of whom have played varsity ball since their freshmen years, Chimacum (18-1) will make its third trip in four years to the state regional baseball tournament this weekend.
Jason Sorensen, Thomas Chivers, Robert Glynn, Jason Minish, Dusty Larson, Steve Melnick and Corey Woodley were all freshmen in the spring of 1998 and part of only 18 players to try out for baseball.
The turnout was so low Chimacum didn’t even field a junior varsity team.
How things have changed.
“We’ve got so many kids with the experience,” sixth-year coach David Anderson said while taking a break from practice Wednesday afternoon. “Ever since we started winning, the numbers have probably tripled to come watch a game.”
