SEQUIM — The city of Sequim will no longer offer passport services beginning Jan. 1.
The service is available at Clallam and Jefferson County offices and at the Port Angeles and Silverdale U.S. Post Offices.
The city of Sequim began offering the passport program in 2007 and is currently the only city on the North Olympic Peninsula that offers the service.
“Each year as we prepare the annual budget for the City Council review, we look at our service priorities and how to best serve the citizens of the city of Sequim,” City Manager Charlie Bush said.
“The passport program is a nice service to the community, but in 2016, we issued 347 passports and only 27 of them were for city of Sequim residents.
“The service requires valuable staff time and we feel that redirecting those staff hours to core services will be of greater benefit to the citizens of the city of Sequim.”
