CLALLAM BAY — Some 50 to 60 people celebrated the grand opening of a new location for the Clallam Bay Visitors Center on Friday.
The Clallam Bay-Sekiu Chamber of Commerce has moved the center from its old digs across from Clallam Bay County Park to a larger building adjacent to the park. Both locations are in the community of Clallam Bay on state Highway 112.
Fire District 5 Fire Chief Trish Hutson brought handmade cards to thank volunteers who had put in more than 700 hours since June to refurbish and brighten the building.
The building once housed Al’s Place, which sold gas and groceries, said Patti Adler, chamber president.
Although Adler didn’t know the square footage, she said the new center is at least two times as big as the old place.
The floor is a swirl of browns and cream, hand-painted by Brian and Amy Cramer.
The chamber paid for the upgrade of the rented building.
“We had a lot of donations from members of the community, and merchants from other towns donated paint and other goods,” Adler said.
“Business owners — and family members — did the work.”
The center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
