JOYCE — There could be a new lawman in town this November, if Clallam County sheriff candidate Lonnie Steele has his way.
Steele has registered for the November 2002 general election, seeking for the third time the seat Sheriff Joe Hawe has occupied for almost 12 years.
“When I’m elected, there’s going to be a new sheriff in town and Dodge City is going to be cleaned up,” Steele said recently.
The 48-year-old Joyce resident is no newcomer to the sheriff’s race.
He filed for candidacy during the 1994 election cycle but didn’t make it past the primary election.
In 1998, he was Hawe’s only challenger and lost, getting only 23 percent of the vote.
