PORT ANGELES — Commissioners Mike Doherty and Steve Tharinger on Tuesday appointed their colleague, Mike Chapman, to act as the board’s liaison to the Clallam County bargaining team.
Chapman will have a seat at the table when the six unions that represent county employees negotiate with the bargaining team.
The idea is to improve communications between the county’s elected board and the unions.
Chapman has experience in labor negotiations and was already serving as the board’s liaison to the human resources department, the two other commissioners said.
“I appreciate Mr. Chapman stepping up to do this,” Tharinger said.
“I think it’ll help in our negotiations.”
The commissioners also approved a change order for a $2,154 credit for new county offices at the Third Street Professional Building, 111 E. Third St., Port Angeles.
The Department of Health and Human Services is moving its public health division from the basement of the Clallam County courthouse to renovated main floor of the Third Street building.
The four other divisions of Health and Human Services will remain in the courthouse.
In other action, the board approved a $15,200 contract with Gold Buckle Rodeo Company for the 2010 Clallam County Fair and a $4,378 right of way purchase for the Old Olympic Highway widening project.
