Clallam County commissioners on Tuesday elected Commissioner Steve Tharinger, D-Dungeness, as the board’s chairman for a one-year term. Commissioner Mike Chapman, R-Port Angeles, was elected vice-chairman for a year as well.
Tharinger succeeds Commissioner Mike Doherty, D-Port Angeles, who just served a year as chairman of the three-member panel.
The board of commissioners’ chairman essentially leads board meetings and proceedings.
Tharinger’s District 1 seat is up for election this year, but the commissioner said he has not decided yet whether he will run for re-election. Candidates have until July to file their intentions to run for election.
