Clallam County housing advocates to visit state capital

Both housing service providers and clients from Clallam County plan to talk with state legislators during Housing Advocacy Day at the state capital today.

“Our priorities are defending investment in the state Housing Trust Fund and basic safety net programs, especially general assistance unemployable and homeless grant assistance,” said Shirley Anderson, who will lead the group in the visit to the state Legislature in Olympia.

“Clallam County has a very active Shelter Providers Network, so we usually send at least a dozen people from all over the county, the West End to Blyn,” said

The delegation will report on housing-related legislative issues at the regular Shelter Providers Network meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting, which will be open to the public, will start at 9 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

The group also will hear construction reports on Maloney Heights and the hygiene center remodel in Port Angeles, and on three West End projects — Burke Place Apartments, Homestead redevelopment and Sarge’s Place for homeless veterans.

Advance planning for the Annual Forum to End Homelessness, which is slated for April 21 in Port Angeles, and preliminary numbers from the annual Point In Time Count of homeless people are also on the agenda.

At 10:30 a.m., the network will adjourn to a wrap-up review and slide show of the Project Homeless Connect exposition, which served more than 350 clients on Jan. 28.
