SEATTLE — The Housing Authority of Clallam County has received a $94,170 federal grant to continue funding two case management positions in 2012.

U.S. Housing and Urban Development provides ongoing funding for the positions, said Pam Teitz, executive director of the housing authority.

The agency received a grant for the same amount in March, which was for 2011 and was awarded later than usual, she said.

The new grant, announced last week, is for 2012.

The funding is for coordinators who link low-income families to education and job training personnel.

The coordinators at the agency at 2603 S. Francis St. have been with the housing authority “for a number of years,” Teitz said.

The grant was among 35 totaling $4,201,667 to public housing agencies in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington state, HUD said.

Grants to housing authorities in Northwest are part of nearly $60 million that HUD awarded to housing agencies nationwide.

Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency grants enable public housing agencies to work with welfare agencies, schools, businesses and other local agencies to develop a comprehensive program to help people participating in HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance program to increase or gain marketable skills.

“In today’s economy, it’s never been more critical to help families obtain the skills that lead to jobs,” said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.

“With HUD’s help, these housing agencies will be able to assist families in finding employment, increasing their earning potential and putting them on a path to self-sufficiency.”
