PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners approved a six-ton weight limit for vehicles traveling over the Elwha River Bridge following a public hearing Tuesday morning at the county courthouse.
The 102-year-old, 500-foot, one-lane span is sits 75 feet above the Elwha River about six miles east of Port Angeles and about two miles from where the Elwha empties into the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
County Commissioner Mike Doherty, D-Port Angeles, said the bridge was a serious liability issue for the county. It should be the subject of a future public works study session, he said.
