SEQUIM — Native plants will be available at the Clallam County Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale on Saturday.

The sale will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

The sale will offer a unique assortment of native plants, ornamentals and vegetable starts that have been “home grown and nurtured by local gardeners, therefore a buyer knows that what they buy is suitable for our local growing environment,” said Jan Noonan who, with Janet Oja and Rita Jones, co-chairs the sale.

Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions about how and where to plant a specimen and the size and habitat to expect as the plant matures.

Native plants will include hemlock, elderberry, grand fir, Western red cedar and red osier dogwood.

Vegetables will include rhubarb, tomato starts and lettuce.

A variety of rhododendrons, sedum, hostas and other perennials will be on sale also.

Half wine barrels donated by Camaraderie Cellars, vintage gardening books and other unique gardening items will be for sale, and a drawing will be held for gardening supplies.

Proceeds from the spring plant sale provide funding to support local education programs and maintain the demonstration gardens, including the Woodcock Gardens, where the plant sale is being held; Robin Hill Farm, where Clallam County Master Gardeners grow fruit and vegetables that help supply the soup kitchen; and the Olympic Peninsula Demonstration Garden at the Sequim’s Water Reclamation Park north of Carrie Blake Park.

Clallam County Master Gardeners is a cooperative program between Washington State University and Clallam County.
