CLALLAM COUNTY MAY RAISE FAIR FEES

PORT ANGELES — If you’re an adult, it could cost you 50 cents more at the gate to get into the 2003 Clallam County Fair.

The Clallam County Fairgrounds board meets at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the fairgrounds kitchen, 1608 W. 16th St., to consider a proposal to raise fairgrounds fees for all adult categories, including those for students and seniors.

Such an increase would increase adult gate fees to $7.50 and students/seniors fair entry fee to $5.50.

“In order to keep up with entertainment costs and maintenance and upkeep, we have to increase fees for those things,” said Craig Jacobs, county Public Works department director who oversees fairgrounds operations. Jacobs added that gate fees include free parking or grandstand entertainment, which keeps the fees still reasonable.

The decision to raise fairgrounds fees ultimately rests with the Clallam County commissioners, who are scrapping with a $1.8 million budget deficit and 22 county employee layoffs.

Jacobs said the fairgrounds has not raised its fees since November 1999.
