Today’s election could be the last in Clallam County in which voters step into the voting booth at their local precincts.
County commissioners will consider an ordinance next week that effectively will make all future Clallam County elections vote-by-mail.
State law allows a county’s auditor to designate a precinct all vote-by-mail if fewer than 200 people vote at that precinct’s polling place.
The proposed ordinance would require any Clallam County precinct in which more than 200 people vote at the polling place to be split so the number falls below 200, County Auditor Cathleen McKeown said.
Then the county auditor can switch all the county precincts to vote-by-mail effective Jan. 1, she said.
McKeown proposed the ordinance before county commissioners Monday morning. They are expected to consider the matter and take public comment next week.
