PORT ANGELES — The newest vehicle in the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department fleet drives 45 mph on the highway, weighs 30,000 pounds and boasts an armored exterior that will protect officers from most high-risk situations.
The military surplus armored personnel carrier is valued at $65,000, but came at no cost to the department.
“It will be worth a million dollars when we need it,” Sheriff Joe Hawe said Friday.
At 10 a.m. Monday, the department will commission the APC Peacekeeper during a presentation in front of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
