PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire that badly damaged a home west of Port Angeles early Friday morning.
The two-story home along state Highway 112 near Place Road was not occupied and had no power, though furniture and other belongings remained inside, Chief Criminal Deputy Ron Cameron said.
Because of that, the blaze was under investigation as possible arson, but no evidence to support that had been found, and the Sheriff’s Office had not come to any conclusions as of Friday, Cameron said.
A passerby reported the fire at 12:35 a.m., said Clallam County Fire District No. 2.
Firefighters arrived to find fire showing on the second floor, with flames shooting out a side window.
The fire was extinguished quickly, but firefighters remained to put out hot spots, staying at the house for three hours.
A crew of three remained at the home for the rest of the night to make sure the fire didn’t reignite.
The fire caused extensive damage to the interior.
No suspicious activity was reported in the area beforehand, Cameron said.
