The Clallam County commissioner rematch between incumbent Mike Doherty and challenger Phil Kitchel was too close to call Tuesday night, with Kitchel leading by only 103 votes.
“It’s tight but what we expected,” Kitchel said from Clallam County Republican Party headquarters in Port Angeles.
“Obviously we would like to be ahead by 1,000 to 2,000 votes.”
Kitchel said he expected more votes in his favor when the ballot-counting resumes Friday.
Doherty was unavailable for comment Tuesday night.
Kitchel had 6,914 votes, or 50.4 percent of the votes counted Tuesday night, to Doherty’s 6,811 votes, or 49.62 percent.
