The first day of filing for fall elections in Clallam County on Monday produced one surprise candidate, while the other 11 hopefuls were either incumbents or those who already had announced their intention to run.
Andy Peake of Sequim filed to oppose incumbent County Auditor Cathleen McKeown of Port Angeles, who also threw her hat in the ring.
Peake mounted an unsuccessful write-in campaign against McKeown in 2001 as she sought election to fill out the final year of an unexpired term.
McKeown would serve a full four-year term if she wins in November.
