PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Republican Party will host Helena Paneyko, a teacher and author from Venezuela now living in Port Townsend, at a quarterly dinner meeting Tuesday.
The dinner will be at 6 p.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive in Port Angeles. Diners will order from the menu.
Those wishing to attend the dinner should contact Ann Ricks at 61ricks@gmail.com.
Paneyko, who emigrated from Venezuela to the United States and has since become a U.S. citizen, will talk about the country of Venezuela and how the current government is affecting it today.
The chief veterinarian and proprietor of a small animal clinic in Venezuela — who hosted a radio talk show on animal health there — Paneyko now is a Spanish teacher at Jefferson Community School and a professor of Spanish at Olympic College in Poulsbo.
She has taught Spanish at the Defense Language Institute in both Monterey, Calif., and San Antonio.
A published author, Paneyko contributed to “Half and Half: Writers on Growing Up Biracial and Bicultural”; wrote a column about animal life in Revista Estampas, a national newspaper, for six years; and won a Rainshadow Poetry Contest in 2016 in Sequim.
