PORT ANGELES — Encouraged by Clallam and Jefferson counties’ health officer, the Clallam Board of Health voted Tuesday to reaffirm its support of Port Angeles’ plans to fluoridate the municipal water system.
“This is a natural phenomenon that was discovered to have health benefits,” Dr. Tom Locke told Health Board members.
The board followed Locke’s recommendation, five of its seven members in attendance, to approve of the City Council’s plans to fluoridate.
Two members of the newly expanded board were absent Tuesday — John Beitzel of Sequim and Camille Scott of Forks.
Locke said the board’s action was timed with a July 28 appeal hearing of the city’s decision.
He urged the board to tell City Council members that “their decision is a good one.”
