PORT ANGELES – A $3.33 million remodeling of the Clallam County jail will go to bids next month, and completion of its first phase is set for December.
Spokane architect Robert Glass met with county commissioners at their work session Monday and outlined a schedule that starts with advertising the project on March 4 and 11, walking bidders through the remodeling on March 13, and opening bids on April 3.
The project will add 24 beds to the jail, which was designed to hold 96 inmates but has been crowded on occasion by more than 135 prisoners.
Also included in the work will be relocation of the intake, transfer and release areas, with additional space for holding and health care.
The kitchen and delivery areas also will be enlarged.
