PORT ANGELES — The minimum self-haul fee at the Port Angeles Landfill could increase 350 percent starting April 1 under a proposal to be considered by the City Council.
The proposed fee increase from $2 to $7 would equal a minimum load increase from 52 pounds to 182 pounds.
The proposed increase wouldn’t affect residential yard waste disposal, which is free.
The city’s utility advisory committee recommended the increase at its meeting this week. The City Council could consider the proposal at its Feb. 19 meeting.
City Solid Waste Supervisor Tom McCabe said the number of self-haul vehicles at the landfill has increased 17 percent since 1998 — from 73,729 vehicles then to a projected 86,263 in 2002.
