An Oregon man who recently moved to Clallam County was arrested Saturday for allegedly stealing credit cards and checks from numerous rural mailboxes.
Mitchell John Hollowell, 38, was taken into custody east of Port Angeles at 256665 U.S. Highway 101 after sheriff’s deputies identified him as their primary suspect in the rash of recent mail thefts, Chief Deputy Fred DeFrang said.
“He had several stolen credit cards in his possession at the time of his arrest,” DeFrang said.
Sheriff’s detectives said they recovered stolen credit cards and checks as well as merchandise allegedly purchased with stolen credit cards.
“The largest single theft we’ve recovered so far is about $2,000 worth of Streetjammer electric scooters,” DeFrang said.
“He pawned them, and we think he’s probably sold some.”
Detectives also suspect Hollowell ordered thousands of dollars of other property using the stolen credit cards, DeFrang said.
