PORT ANGELES — Open houses in Port Angeles and Sequim will inform Clallam County residents about competing water demands, dwindling salmon runs, water quality, flooding and wildlife habitat.

Billed as “Watershed Events,” open houses tonight in Port Angeles and Tuesday night in Sequim will give residents the opportunity to get involved in the future of central and eastern Clallam County’s watersheds. The watersheds targeted run from Lake Sutherland and the Elwha River, east to Dungeness River and Sequim Bay.

“What we’ve done is not only looked at what was wrong, but what to do,” said Robbie Mantooth, co-chair of the Elwha-Morse Management Team.

The Elwha-Morse team and the Dungeness River Management team have been working on watershed plans for about two years.

The Elwha-Morse meeting, including watershed studies on the Elwha, Little River, Lees, Ennis, Peabody, Valley, Tumwater, Indian and Dry creeks, will be the focus of the open house at 6 tonight at Vern Burton Gymnasium, 308 E. Fourth St., in Port Angeles.
