PORT ANGELES — Bob Vail, 57, chairman of the Clallam County Planning Commission, died Saturday in his home, apparently of a viral infection.
He had become sick on a visit to his family in New Hampshire and had been ill for about a week.
A retired U.S. Coast Guard captain who spent 22 years in the service, he was a convener of the Port Angeles Association of Religious Communities and a WorkFirst training instructor.
Mr. Vail, who lived at 1454 S. Bagley Creek Road, also was a lay chaplain of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship and instrumental in building its church in Agnew.
He was a frequent contributor to the “Issues of Faith”‘ column that appears each Friday in Peninsula Daily News.
He is survived by his wife, Mickie. The couple had no children.
