Clallam County Assessor Linda Owings-Rosenburgh mailed reassessment notices Tuesday to about 60 percent of the county’s property owners.
Naughty or nice, most of the recipients likely will see a Santa-size boost in their properties’ worth — meaning a hefty hike in their 2005 property taxes.
Owings-Rosenburgh said the reassessments — officially called Change of Value notices — cover land and buildings mostly in and around Sequim.
Known as Revaluation Area 2, it last was revalued in 1998 — one sixth of the county is re-inspected every six years, while the other five sixths are monitored by a computer-assisted market analysis.
Some neighborhoods and property types in Area 2 were revalued in the interval because of rising property prices.
The notices mailed Tuesday reflect 100 percent of fair-market value according to sales data gathered between Jan. 1 and March 31. Owings-Rosenburgh said the time lag meant the new evaluations are about 10 percent below the latest market value.
