PORT ANGELES — A new city report listing potential utility savings if properties east of the city limit are annexed is being questioned by the Clallam County Public Utility District.
So is the city’s ability to assume only part of the PUD’s power grid.
The PUD provides electricity and water to residents and businesses in the unincorporated area between DelGuzzi Drive and Morse Creek.
That is the corridor, centered on U.S. Highway 101 — including Wal-Mart, Les Schwab Tires, a new Safeway complex and several car dealers — that the city is considering annexing.
The area also includes several housing tracts. And PUD officials wondered aloud Monday whether the city would save annexed customers money — especially at a cost to other PUD customers.
“I’m not sure there isn’t an impact to our other customers if we lose those customers to the annexation. It is not revenue-neutral,” PUD General Manager Michael McInnes told commissioners at a meeting Monday.
