How much electricity rates will rise for Clallam County PUD customers will be announced Sept. 4, General Manager Michael McInnes said Monday.
Public Utilities District commissioners must vote by their Sept. 10 meeting for the increase to take effect by Oct. 1, when the Bonneville Power Administration’s new five-year wholesale contracts take effect.
“We will review the rates if BPA’s rates come down later,” said PUD Commissioner Hugh Haffner. “People have expressed concern that our rates won’t go down once they go up, but we have done that before, in 1996.”
PUD commissioners will invite ratepayers to their Sept. 4 meeting. They also plan to explain the planned increases in the North Olympic Peninsula’s media.
Information will be available at district offices, local businesses and on the utility’s Web site, www.clallampud.net.
