PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Public Utility District staff will study the costs of the city of Port Angeles to take over portions of the PUD’s electricity system in a proposed annexation area west of the city.
Clallam PUD also has until Feb. 22 to ask the Clallam County Boundary Review Board to review the proposed annexation of industrial lands that include the site of a proposed alder sawmill.
PUD General Manager Dennis Bickford said if neither the district’s nor city’s customers will be harmed, then it’s reasonable to see what costs can be established to transfer electrical facilities to the city.
PUD Telecommunications and Power Resources Manager Fred Mitchell said the district’s service area agreement with the city has terms and conditions for such a transfer.
Two formulas are possible, based either on building new infrastructure or valuing the new sawmill plus decommissioning the district’s current system, he said.
30-acre sawmill property
Port Angeles Hardwood LLC agreed in November to buy 30.3 acres in Eclipse Industrial Park, owned by B&D Properties.
The company plans to build a $23 million alder sawmill that will employ 95 with a $5 million payroll.
