PORT ANGELES — Members of the Clallam County Charter Review Commission continued consideration of major revisions to the county’s “constitution” during a meeting Thursday.
Commissioners said they are still considering overhauling the local initiative process as well as changing the community development director position from appointed to elected.
Libertarian Bob Forde of Sequim, who last fall championed an initiative on a critical areas measure, called the initiative process flawed Thursday and suggested it should be streamlined.
Charter commissioners also called for the consideration of removing county commissioners’ ability to repeal a publicly approved initiative.
The prohibition would extend for two years after a public vote, if the proposal makes the fall ballot and is approved by voters.
