PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Sheriff’s investigators on Sunday identified the victim of a Saturday fatal boating accident as Hannibal Madden, of Port Angeles.
Madden, 75, was believed to have drowned near the northwestern tip of Ediz Hook after he was knocked from a sailboat into choppy waters off Ediz Hook. Winds were gusting at 25 to 35 knots at the time of the incident, the Sheriff’s Department reported.
Deputies learned that at about 10 a.m., the sailboat had just passed the tip of Ediz Hook when rough water and heavy winds caused Madden and two friends aboard the 33-foot sailboat Just So to cancel their sailing plans.
