PORT ANGELES — Saying his colleague is “doing a good job” as chairman, Republican Clallam County Commissioner Mike Chapman nominated Dungeness Democrat Steve Tharinger to a second year as board chairman.
Chapman and Democrat Mike Doherty, both of Port Angeles, joined to name Tharinger at Tuesday’s county commissioners’ action meeting.
Chapman made the move during a year in which he has said he will seek a second four-year term as the board’s lone GOP commissioner.
“There is not hard set policy” that encourages a chairman rotation, said Chapman, adding that he didn’t consider that it was an election year when he nominated Tharinger.
