Clallam County commissioners will appoint the new county treasurer today at their meeting at 10 a.m. in the courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Candidates to replace retiring Treasurer Ruth Gerdon are Judith Scott, Gerdon’s deputy and a 21-year veteran of the treasurer’s office; Duane Wolfe, former Port Angeles city finance director and city treasurer; and Beth Loveridge, who has managed investments for the cities of Houston and Dallas in Texas.

Gerdon will leave office Dec. 31. Her replacement must run next November if he or she wants to keep the job, then run for re-election for a full four-year term in November 2006.
