Clallam to improve Black Diamond Road’s shoulders in fall

PORT ANGELES — A quarter-mile section of Black Diamond Road south of Port Angeles will be improved this fall.

The shoulders and ditch slopes will be flattened and widened, utilities will be moved underground, and drainage pipes will be modified along a narrow section between Mileposts 3.92 and 4.21 by December.

County commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to award a $174,843 bid to Primo Construction Inc. of Carlsborg.

Primo Construction submitted the lowest of five bids that commissioners opened Sept. 10.

Assistant County Engineer Joe Donisi said the engineer’s estimate for the construction phase was $190,000. The total cost is $250,000.

Federal funds will account for about $175,000 of the total, with the rest coming from the county road fund.

Board Chairman Mike Chapman was authorized to execute the contract once the contractor has signed it.
