Clallam: Transit board to view new Gateway design

PORT ANGELES — Clallam Transit board members today will look at a new International Gateway Transportation Center design that proposes to excavate for about 120 parking spaces under a bus platform.

Dan DiGuilio, Clallam Transit general manager, said the board will also be presented with a three-dimensional views and a virtual walking tour of the new Gateway center design proposal.

“It will almost be like a movie or someone walking through it,” Di Guilio said of the presentation.

The transit board meeting begins at 1 p.m. today at the Clallam Transit System conference room, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.

The project, which would include bus parking, visitor parking and include the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center and a community lobby, would be located at the northwest corner of Front at Lincoln streets.

Also, the board will discuss a proposal to “condominiumize” the project, allowing Clallam Transit to own the property, but sublease the space to the city so it can charge for underground parking intended for ferry passengers.
