PORT ANGELES — Lower Elwha Klallam tribal leaders support Clallam County’s proposal to replace the one-lane bridge that has spanned the Elwha River since 1913, a county official said.
Such a project could cost between $6 million and $7 million, but county Public Works Director Craig Jacobs said the state Department of Transportation is committed to funding 80 percent of the project.
The other 20 percent could be paid by Bureau of Indian Affairs funding secured through the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe and other federal transportation funding for the bridge crossing of Olympic Discovery Trail.
