Clallam County Commissioner Mike Chapman officially has a Republican opponent when he seeks re-election this fall.
County Undersheriff Fred DeFrang announced Friday that he will run in the GOP primary against Chapman, who is the sole Republican on the three-member Board of County Commissioners.
Chapman said he looks forward to discussing campaign issues with DeFrang.
But the first-term commissioner wondered how much his 2003 refusal to endorse Sue Forde — who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican against Commissioner Steve Tharinger, D-Dungeness, last fall — has to do with DeFrang’s challenge
DeFrang said his interest revolves around the position, not in ousting Chapman.
“This has little to do with the incumbent,” DeFrang, 53, said Saturday.
“It has to do with my time in life and the fact that I’ve met my career goals.”
