PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Undersheriff Steve Snover has retired after only six months on the job as the top appointed official in the Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Joe Martin announced Snover’s retirement Tuesday, the same day he announced a scheduled news conference for today to release details of investigations of a former Sheriff’s Department sergeant who has since resigned and a deputy who was placed on administrative leave.
Martin declined to say whether Snover’s retirement, effective Monday, was related to the investigations of former Sgt. David J. Fontenot and Deputy Dwane Hayden.
“I’d rather wait until tomorrow,” Martin said Tuesday.
However, Snover’s resignation was “purely voluntary,” Martin added.
Snover was not available at his Sheriff’s Department office number. Martin said he would not be back to the department.
“He’s out of here,” Martin said.
An undated recorded message on Snover’s extension said he would be on “extended leave” and referred questions to other members of the department.
