Clallam: Veterans Memorial wall to open at 7 Cedars Casino

BLYN — By 8 a.m. Thursday, a 378-foot-wide wall will be unfurled, like a pair of wings, in the 7 Cedars Casino parking lot.

It’s the American Veterans Traveling Tribute, an aluminum replica of the Washington, D.C., Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

It lists more than 58,000 Americans killed in the Southeast Asia conflict — never declared a war — between 1954 and 1975.

This is the Traveling Wall’s second trip to 7 Cedars, which is about 7 miles east of Sequim at 270756 U.S. Highway 101.

It was installed here for four days in July 2004, said casino marketing manager Judy Walz.

The wall will be erected just west of the casino building, near the patio.

“It stretches the length of the parking lot,” she said.

At 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Commander Arnie Hunter of the Native American Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Neah Bay will preside over a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps during the opening ceremony.

Hunter, 66, is a Neah Bay native and Marine Corps veteran who was stationed in Okinawa from 1958 to 1962.
