A Clallam County-wide burn ban goes into effect Friday and will continue through September.
Rob Robertsen, county director of community development and fire marshal, said the ban could be extended or shortened according to conditions in September. The ban will be annual, reducing confusion caused by off-and-on bans in previous summers.
It applies only to outdoor burning and does not include recreational fires, unless severe conditions warrant.
Burn barrels have been illegal in Washington for years, and outdoor burning already is banned in the city of Port Angeles and the city’s urban growth area to the west and east of town.
