Classic Boeing plane to fly into Port Townsend airport

PORT TOWNSEND — A piece of history is scheduled to fly into Port Townsend on Saturday morning at about 10:30 a.m. — if the weather holds up.

“I hope the weather works with us,” said Addison Pemberton, a Spokane aviator, and owner of the world’s last working Boeing 40.

He plans to fly into the Jefferson County International Airport to visit Jerry Thuotte, Port Townsend Aero Museum director, and see the progress on the museum planned to open at the airport this summer.

Thuotte said he is thrilled to have the plane come to town.

“It’s a very historic mail plane,” Thuotte said. “It’s one of a kind.”

Flying another historic mail plane, a 1931 Senior Speedmail by American Airways — which flew from Chicago to Dallas — will be his son Jay.

“He’s bringing two planes, and they are both historic,” Thuotte said.

Said Pemberton on Tuesday, “It’s going to be a beautiful flight if it all works.”
