Coast Guard Cutter crewman promoted in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Boatswain’s Mate Markus Graham was advanced to petty officer 1st class in a Dec. 8 ceremony at Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles.

Graham is a crew member on the 110-foot patrol boat U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Cuttyhunk home-ported in Port Angeles.

Graham was promoted by Rear Adm. Jack E. Vogt, commander of the Coast Guard’s 13th District, who showed up at a scheduled dress uniform inspection of the Cuttyhunk’s crew with Graham’s wife, Kelly and sons, Caleb and Cohen, for the surprise ceremony.

Boatswains Mate 1st Class Markus Graham

Graham’s promotion is part of the USCG meritorious advancement program which allows district commanders to promote one guardsmen per year, other coast guard promotions are managed centrally.

According to a press release, Vogt selected Graham was selected for meritorious advancement based on his volunteerism within the local community and his devotion to the coast guard mission.

The 13th District, headquartered in Seattle, covers all of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana and has more than 3,000 personnel who operate 21 cutters, 132 boats and 11 aircraft.
