LA PUSH — A Port Angeles Coast Guard Air Station crew medically evacuated a passenger from the cruise ship Explorer of the Seas near La Push on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The 66-year-old man, who was reportedly suffering from internal bleeding, was safely airlifted by the Coast Guard aircrew and transported to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Amanda Norcross said the Coast Guard would not release the man’s name.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a call at 3:13 a.m. from the cruise ship, which was transiting to Victoria, requesting assistance for the passenger.
Air Station Port Angeles launched a crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter at approximately 4 a.m. and arrived on scene within 30 minutes.
The weather at the time of the rescue was reported to be foggy with 5 mph winds.
